A Legacy of Innovation; A Future of Possibilities

Since 1953, Utrecht Science Park Bilthoven has been a centre of groundbreaking research and development. Originally home to the National Institute for Public Health (RIV, now RIVM), the site played a pivotal role in vaccine innovation - including landmark contributions to the fight against polio and smallpox -  and laid the foundation for the Dutch National Vaccination Program. This rich scientific heritage is still visible today in the names of buildings and streets across the campus, each reflecting a chapter in the story of public health and progress.

A new chapter began in 2013, when the Dutch government transferred ownership to Bilthoven Biologicals (BBio), a vaccine manufacturer formerly part of RIVM. BBio took over full management of the site, continuing its mission to advance global health.

In 2016, Poonawalla Science Park B.V. (PSP) became the owner and operator of the campus, which was then known as the Antonie van Leeuwenhoek campus.

In 2017, PSP joined forces with Utrecht Science Park, marking a strategic step forward in positioning the site as a leading hub for life sciences, biotechnology, and innovation, both nationally and internationally.

With this partnership, the campus was renamed Utrecht Science Park Bilthoven, reflecting its strengthened identity and future-focused mission. Today, the park continues to build on its scientific legacy while offering a vibrant environment for research, collaboration, and growth.
